The dogs are getting big.  Max is about 55 pounds and Dori is 45.  It’s hard to believe they are almost 7 months old now.  They went in the beginning of the month to get fixed, which was kinda hard on Dori but she is fine now and as rambunctious as ever.  Max was a bit of a handful while he had to wear the cone.  He figured out that if he puts his head down in the back yard and runs, the edge of the cone would dig into the grass and pop it off.  We finally gave up and just took it off a couple of days early, as the cone was starting to be more ducktape than cone where I had to keep fixing the cracks he put in it.

They both like to get up a little before six and then sit around impatiently for the alarm at 6:30, because they know they get fed first thing when we get up.  Dori has taken to tearing the nose off of any stuffed animal she can get ahold of.  And she seems to try extra hard to get Danger Teddy and Cow Cow, so we have to keep and extra close eye on her around the boys rooms.

The boys have both asked to have their mattresses moved to under their beds so that the dogs can sleep with them.  This has made it a lot easier for me to get the boys up in the morning, as both Dori and Max have picked up real quick on what to do when I tell them “Go see Tristan” or “Go see Gavin”.  They run right in and jump and lick the boys.

Here’s some pictures to tide you over.

We, along with their friend Russell and his mom Kelly, all went to Irving park to the pumpkin patch they have this time of year.  They went on the hay ride, the train (of course, like Gavin would miss a train), panned for gold, and Gavin drove a little electric car around a track.  Unfortunately the patch closed before we could get to the maze.  We did bring along some bread and fed the ducks, along with a couple of somewhat aggressive peacocks.  The peacocks at the park have apparently had a very productive spring, as they are everywhere now.

For her birthday, as has become our custom, me and the boys took her to Restaurant Shiki for dinner at the Tappan Grill.  Or as the kids call it, Dinner and a Show.  They really enjoy have the food cooked right in front of the them.  Gavin’s favorite is when they make a volcano out of an onion.  This night was extra special , as Tommy Lasorta, ex manager of the Dodgers, was celebrating his birthday a couple of tables over. (well not really all the special as he did manage the Dodgers, but it’s the closest I’ve been to a celebrity so I’m including it).  According to our cook he comes in a couple of times a  month.

Last week they had an Oktoberfest carnival at the nature center down the street from Gavin’s school.  As part of the festivities, they had Dachshund racing that Gavin really wanted to see.  This was scheduled at the same time as Tristan’s baseball game, so while Tristan and I went to his game, Brenda took Gavin to see the dog races.  He had a lot of fun there and got drafted to help operate the starting gate, and he had a lot of fun doing that.  After the races they had a costume contest for the dachshunds and Gavin got to be a judge.  He got to pick the 2nd and 3rd place winners.  His favorite was a dachshund that was dressed up as a racehorse with a little jockey on his back.

1st inning
Field – Tristan started the game at shortstop. The scrappers gave up 1 run when a ball was thrown into the outfield trying to get out a runner stealing third. That was the only run scored by the Lugnuts this inning.
At bat – The Scrappers had a two out rally getting back to back hits before the Lugnuts got the third out. The Scrappers were not able to score.

2nd inning
Field – Tristan was back out in shortstop this inning. The Lugnuts loaded up the bases but the Scrappers kept them to only one run striking out two batters to end the inning.
At bat – The Scrappers got a runner to third base but were not able to bring him home.

3rd inning
Field – Tristan played right field this inning. The Lugnuts scored 5 this inning starting with a bad throw to second that made it into the outfield.
At bat – Tristan hit the ball sharply to the shortstop but was thrown out at first by half a step. The Scrappers got a man to third but were unable to score again.

4th inning
Field – Tristan was back at shortstop this inning. the Scrappers had a good inning keeping the Lugnuts from scoring any runs.
At bat – The Scrappers scored their first run on a single followed by a double to start off the inning. Unfortunately the runner tried to stretch his double into a triple and was thrown out at third. They got some more base runners in the inning but were unable to score again.

5th inning
Field – Tristan sat out this inning. The Scrappers made a double play when the picture caught a pop up and got the runner out at first who had run to second. The Lugnuts loaded the bases but the Scrappers struck out the batter to keep the Lugnuts from scoring.
At bat – The Scrappers scored early with a double with a man on third. Tristan then drove in the second run when he hit his own double into left field. He then stole third base but got thrown out trying to steal home on a very close play. In all the Scrappers scored 3 runs and left the bases loaded, which made for a very exciting inning.

Well way back at last Christmas Gavin got a little R/C plane that flies around a pole.  I needed to make a pole for it, and with one thing or another it got put into his closet and forgot about.  We were cleaning out his closet and he spotted it and today he finally got to play with it.  He had a lot of fun, but managed to break the landing gear off twice landing kinda hard.  It’s probably a good thing he wants to be a train engineer and not a pilot.

Well the ipad ate my note somehow, so this will be all from memory.

Tristan got up to bat twice this game, striking out once and getting thrown out at first once after hitting the ball to the 2nd baseman.

In the field he played 2nd base and got to pitch 2 innings.  He has been really looking forward to pitching all season and he finally got his chance.  He did a good  job striking out 2 batters, and keeping them to only 3 runs over the two innings.  Only 3 runs is good for a fall ball game.
