Gavin’s team played the Nationals on Saturday. Gavin played all over the place, playing Right Field, Pitcher, Catcher, and Short Stop.

He started off the game fielding a ball in right field, and fielded many balls at pitcher and short stop. In machine pitch, the pitcher position doesn’t pitch, it’s just a fielding position.

Batting wise, Gavin hit the ball well all three times he was up, but he was thrown out at first in the 3rd inning and 6th inning. His form is much improved though, which has resulted in him getting good contact with the ball a lot more often. He is also doing much better with his throws, being able to throw the ball accurately from short stop to 1st base.

The second tournament game the  White Sox played.  This time went better.  The White Sox gave up 4 runs in the 2nd, but those were the only runs given up the entire game.  The ending score was White Sox 9, Anteaters 4.

Tristan played RF, CF, and LF.

Tristan batted 1 for 2, with a sacrifice.  In the 2nd inning Tristan hit a double down the 1 base line, batting in the runner on 2nd.  He then stole 3rd base.  He was thrown out late in the inning stealing home.  Tristan got a good break and reached home in time, but the pitcher was standing in front of the plate and deflected Tristan’s foot from the plate, allowing the pitcher to tag him out.

Tristan struck out in the 4th inning.

In the 6th inning, Tristan hit the ball and was thrown out at first, but his hit allowed the runner on 2nd to advance to 3rd.  The runner then scored on a hit by the batter after Tristan.

I was grabbed by Tristan’s coach to be dugout manager this game, so I don’t have any video of Tristan.

Gavin’s team took on the NSLL White Sox.  Gavin played Center Field and 3rd Base.  He had a very busy time fielding this game.  In the 1st inning he fielded a ball in center field and threw it to 2nd, where the runner was tagged out.  Later in the inning he fielded another ball, though no out was made.

In the 3rd inning he was playing 3rd base, where he fielded 4 different hits to him.

In the 4th inning, still playing third he charge a foul ball and almost caught it.

In the 6th inning, back in center field, he fielded another ball.

Batting Gavin went 1 for 2, with a single and a strike out.

Every year Angel’s stadium has little league days on various Sunday’s.  This year, Olive’s day was the Sunday after the game we went to for Tristan’s birthday.  For Little League day, they go to the game in their uniform and get to walk around the field before the game.  Then they all go back to the stands and sit together with their teammates.

The game ended up tied and we stayed until the end of the 12th inning hoping to see who would ultimately win.  It ended up we should have stayed one more, as Mark Trumbo ended the game by hitting a home run to right where we were sitting.  Tristan was especially put out after seeing the highlights on TV as you got a very good shot of where we were sitting when they showed the ball landing.  Most everyone had left by then, so we would have really stuck out in the picture.  We were that close to being on national TV, lol.

The White Sox played their first tournament game last Saturday in the Orange City Tournament, against the Villa Park LL Giants.  The White Sox got off to a slow start, giving up 5 runs in the first inning and 4 in the second.  They only gave up 1 more run for the rest of the game, but were never able to catch the Giants, losing at the end 10 to 7.  Their best inning was the 5th, when they got the Giant’s out on only 5 pitches.

Tristan played Left Field and Right Field during the game, fielding balls in the 1st and 2nd innings.

Batting wise, Tristan did very well, bunting for a single in the 1st inning, and hitting for singles in the 3rd and 5th innings.  During the 5th inning Tristan was able to steal third base, but was left stranded there.

As has been the tradition for the last few years, we start off baseball season by taking Tristan and Gavin to an Angel’s game for his birthday.  His birthday and opening day of the Angels are within a week or two of each other.  This year was no different and we headed off last Friday to see the Angels play the Detroit Tigers.  The Angels won handily 8 to 1.  I don’t think the Angel’s have ever lost on one of Tristan’s birthday games.

Tristan and Gavin had a lot of fun, and being the bottomless pits they have been recently put a hole is Dad’s wallet, eating between them 4 hot dogs, 2 pizzas, and 2 pretzels, along with a large lemonade each.

Also, per the game tradition, I pay to have his birthday displayed on the scoreboard, which he always gets a kick out of.  The first year was the best when it was a surprise –  His eyes got real wide and he kept asking how the stadium people knew his name.

This last game Gavin’s team took on the NSLL Rays.  This game got quite chilly with a brisk wind blowing for most of the game.  Gavin played Right Field, Left Field, and Short Stop.  He batted twice with one single and one strike out.

Gavin’s Hit

This is the third time the White Sox and Dodgers have met this season, with them splitting the first two games, so there was a lot of anticipation for this game. Sadly this game went to the Dodgers, 6 to 2, due to a 5 run first inning. The White Sox had two weeks off due to spring break, and were showing a bit of rust in the first inning. They settled down after that and only gave up one more run, but the offense never really got going and they just couldn’t catch up.

Tristan played Center Field, Right Field, and 2nd Base. The first ball of the game was hit to Tristan in center, who fielded it cleanly and kept the batter to a long single. Later in the inning, Tristan backed up 2nd on a steal attempt and was able to stop the ball and prevent the runner from advancing to third when the catcher missed the 2nd baseman with the throw.

Tristan struck out twice and walked once. He didn’t get a hit, so his hitting streak ends at 5 games. He did get one stolen base, and scored one of the two White Sox Runs.  He stole 2nd base, advanced to 3rd on a sacrifice, then scored on an infield hit, dodging a tag at home plate.

The one baseball game over spring break was Gavin’s against the NSLL Angels. During the game Gavin played Left Field, Center Field, and 3rd Base.  He batted three times, but struck out each time.  While playing 3rd base in the 4th inning, he fielded a ball hit to him, but did not make an out.
