Gavin’s team had a good game playing the NSLL Braves.  They got a lot of hits, and had fun running the bases.  Gavin came up three times and got a single and struck out twice.  He played Right Field, Catcher twice, and Short Stop.  I think his favorite postion is catcher, I hear him asking his coach to play there all the time.

Despite losing, I think this was the best the Whitesox have played this season. They started off with a perfect 1-2-3 first inning and came back to score a run on the bottom half. The two teams went back and forth, ending up tied at 2-2 in the 2nd, 3-3 in the third, and 5-5 in the fourth. The Whitesox gave up 5 runs in the fifth however, which proved to be decisive for the other team. The whitesox were only able to muster up 1 run in the bottom of the fifth after which the game was called due to darkness.

Tristan came up in the 2nd with men on 2nd and 3rd and hit the ball to first base. He was out at first, but this hit allowed the runner from third to score, getting Tristan his first RBI for the season.

In the 5th inning, Tristan came up with bases loaded and hit the ball sharply though the infied, extending his hitting streak to 3 games, and scoring the runners from 2nd and 3rd, raising his RBI total to 3 for the game.
Tristan was caught stealing 2nd, when the player on 2nd took off to steal 3rd, and then changed his mind. Tristan got caught most of the way to 2nd and was tagged out.

Tristan played 2nd base, Right Field, and Center Field this game.

Today the 2nd grade had a hoedown where the showed off their square dancing skills. They have been practicing for weeks in preparation for showing off for their parents.  For the final dance they brought their parents out and danced with them.  I don’t have any video of that, but I do have video below of Gavin showing off his great skills.

Today Gavin’s team played the Indians. During the game Gavin played Center Field twice, Pitcher twice, and 2nd base once. He did not get any time at catcher today. He only got up to bat two times, and he struck out both times.

Gavin’s team took on the As today.  Gavin returned to his hitting ways, going 2 for 4 with 2 singles.  He played center field three times, pitcher two times, and catcher once.  In maching pitch the pitcher postion is soley for fielding, the coach using a pitching machine to pitch to the batters.

He fielded two balls while playing pitcher and a ball in center field.  He wasn’t able to make any outs, but his coach was very happy about how quickly he fielded the ball and threw it to first.

Just like Gavin, Tristan was up for an award this trimester.  He received an award for Excellence in Social Studies, and was on the gold honor roll (all As) for the 2nd trimester in a row.  He’s getting all As while being in GATE (Gifted and Talented), which has a much harder curriculum than normal.

This game was a real heart breaker.  The NSLL teams have been dominating the OLL teams so far this season.  The game started out looking to continue this trend – the White Sox were down 6 to 0 at the end of the 2nd inning.  They came back over the next three innings though, tying it up 9 to 9 at the end of the top of the 5th.  They lost it in the bottom though, giving up another 5 runs, which they were  not able to recover from.  The As have only lost one game so far this season, so over all everyone was happy that our boys made it competitive, even though we were all disappointed we couldn’t come up with a win.

There was a lot of excitement for White Sox fans, they managed to steal home 3 times in the 4th inning, causing the As coach to get a bit aggravated.  I hate to admit it, but I enjoyed that a bit, especially after he had started the ‘jolly green giant’ as pitcher.

OLL had a bunch of their kids leave to play pony ball at the start of this season, so the AAA teams are filled out with a lot of younger kids.  The NSLL teams don’t suffer from this, and it shows, overall they are older and bigger than our guys.

The second trimester ended this week we recieved notification that Gavin would be getting an award – they give out awards at the end of each trimester.  We attended the awards ceremony and Gavin got the award for general excellence in all subjects.  He also got a bronze metal award for reading counts.  Reading counts are a program where the kids take a test after reading a book, and if they pass they recieve points based on how difficult the book was.  Gavin following his brothers footsteps and turning into quite a good reader.
